This is our last morning of our 12-day tour through wonderful Sri Lanka, and in a few hours, we will drive to the airport. The tour has been extremely successful!
Not only did we see all 34 endemic bird species and a number of “specials”, but we also got to see wonderful landscapes and enjoy the hospitality of Sri Lanka people. Our primary guide Thilly and co-guide/driver Indu have worked hard and professionally to bring the tour to such a success. Thilly is extremely sharp and knowledgeable – it’s difficult to think that there are any better bird guides around!
The logistics also worked perfectly, despite problems with diesel shortage ll over the country. All in all , we are extremely satisfied with this tour, and there is no reason to look for other organization than Walk With Jith !

I had an excellent week together with my expert bird guide Susantha. He took so good care of me and found so many birds and with lot of time to study them.

We started in Yala national park where we spotted 100 different species of birds including rarities as Sirkeer Malkoha, Blue faced Malkoha, Grey bellied Cuckoo, Marshall’s Iora, and Brahmini Starling. A good spot at Indian Little Nightjar. We also had close observations of a Leopard, elephants, deers, wild boar, wild buffalo, crocodile and more.

In Bundala national park and its surroundings, we spotted a lot of water birds, bird of prey, kingfishers, bee-eaters and more.
Highlights: A pair of Brown Fish Owl, Coppersmith Barbet, White naped Flameback, Bay-back Shrike, Rosy Starling, Grey headed Fish Eagle, Western Reef Heron, Indian Stone Curlew, Malabar Pied Hornbill…

After an intense 5-day Sri Lanka tour, arrange by WWJ we have nothing but good to say, it couldn’t have been arranged in a better way. Beside everything else we managed to see 34 out of 34 endemic bird species and the main reason spells Thilina.

Not only is he a passionate and knowledgeable bird guide and an excellent driver, but also a great young man, with the ability to please a hard-core birder as well as his not so hard-core birding wife. As if this is not enough WWJ’s offer was about ¾ in price of comparable companies for the same itinerary. We do really recommend WWJ and Thilina.

Well organized program and everything worked very smoothly. Excellent guide, very knowledgeable and a good and safe driver of the car. We will highly recommend him.

Nice hotels in good areas well located, no disturbances during the night. Food good especially Sri Lankan food, we even got spicy food (as we like)

A little bit moist cold in our hotel room; Hill Pride Hotel, Nuwara Eliya (no heating system). Insight hotel was bit too touristic for our taste. (beach hotel last night of the trip)

Leech socks excellent present.

We chose Walk With Jith and his outstanding guide Thilina for our bird watching holiday in June. We wanted a guide for logistics and for find the more difficult birds. We couldn’t have chosen better. Jith communicated with us for months to plan the perfect itinerary and arranged all the logistics.

On tour Thilina worked day and night to find the birds and mammals. He found all that we wanted and more. More than just a wildlife guide, Thilina was also great at looking after our needs, always flexible and extremely friendly. Along the way Thilina ensured we experienced the best local food and culture, in between focused and productive birding sessions. We can especially recommend him to anyone interested to seeing owls, as he is the most capable and dedicated owl finder we have met.

We work hardly recommend Walk With Jith to anyone visiting this beautiful country.

If you want a bird trip in Sri Lanka, we can highly recommend “Walk With Jith”. Our bird guide was excellent in all meanings, skilled, perfect English, social and very helpful.

The company was easy in all contacts. Our “tailor made” trip was very well organized. We saw many more birds than we expected.

Excellent tour with Good Guide (Saman) and all endemics seen.

Excellent tour with Good Guide (Saman) and all endemics seen.

A few things that could be improved:

Kandy – Could be left out of the itinerary. No special birds there.

Yala – Total Kaos! Too many jeeps in the park. This should be registered by park authorities. Not good, stressful, for the wildlife.

Mirissa – The wetland, Kirala Kele (?), should be included in itinerary not as option for 50 USD.

Time for transports: Where stated 5 hours in itinerary, was 3 hours. Could have spent more time in Mirissa instead of at the airport. ….. Itinerary should be adjusted so mornings are spent birdwatching as much as possible, not for transport. I think we spent too much time in transport also on mornings.

Rosen Family - Sweden Birding Tour in Sri Lanka 2016-17
Rosen Family - Sweden. Birding Tour in Sri Lanka 2016-17

A well planned and executed trip for nature, birds & culture. Mr. Upali has done a very good job with logistics, atmosphere and not least sharing his deep knowledge on birds and culture. We really appreciate him sharing local customs, food and treats.

Last but not least, Mr. Upali is an extremely committed birdwatcher and managed to show 34 (all) endemics with good views. In addition we saw much more and had a good birding experience.

The choice of accommodation has been varied but always with “location” in focus. We like this concept, and with Mr. Upali reminding us to bring a few beers to Martins Lodge, we were all set.

Dear Jith,
Thank you for a wonderful Sri Lanka experience. The wild life has been fantastic – perhaps too up close and personal for Sara & Ann on one occasion – elephant! And your ability to patiently guide and explain will always be remembered. Your ability to adjust when the weather did not cooperate as expected was very much appreciated. We enjoyed your ability to explain Sri Lankan culture and history. But most of all we enjoyed your positive outlook on life and hope to see you again, either in Sri Lanka or Sweden or Germany.

Thanks for a lovely time! See your new friends, you soon hopefully!
