Dear Jith,

We are back at the Tamarind Tree on our way home. I have insisted Erica come back home with me. She caught something in India and has been really unwell. I am not happy to leave her here. She needs to be properly diagnosed and treated. She is terribly disappointed as she really wanted to stay on but can see the wisdom in my words.

I think mum, dad & John may well be jealous of my pictures...

Jith,

Thank you again for a wonderful tour! This time exceeds the first of second trips, probably has something to do with that amazing leopard eating its breakfast in Yala!

I think mum, dad & John may well be jealous of my pictures, I know Phil is. Phil reckons thereason we didn’t see leopard or sloth bear on our second day in Yala was because he had the bigger lense on his camera! Oh well!

It made a nice change to visit a less tourist populated elephant orphanage, they really seem to know what they are doing. I would have loved to have stayed and watched (even more there but I think dad would want me back at the zoo!)

My wife & I had 16 days in Sri Lanka in March/April this year with “Walk with Jith”. I would like to thank Jith for an unforgettable experience. It was a first class holiday, the organisation by Jith being faultless without a single problem. Though we were initially a little disappointed that we were not to be guided by Jith himself, our guide Upali Nisshanka was excellent & on the long drives between the sites, we learnt such a lot from him about the wonderful culture & traditions of the island. It was a “birds & culture” tour in which we spent time at Sigiriya, Polannaruwa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains, Tissamaharama, Yala, Bundala, Weligama [for a whale watch], ending at Ranweli Village.

We’ve enjoyed our holiday in Sri Lanka

Very many thanks, Jith for a wonderful two weeks which surpassed our expectations in all respects; also many thanks to Dilan for his good company & careful driving which has a big significance on the enjoyment of a holiday like this –we all felt safe with him 100% of the time.

No tour will work well unless the Guide is right. Upali was absolutely outstanding

We arrived several hours late in Colombo due to various delays on the outward flight. Despite this, and after a fairly confusing phone call to Jith from Doha our guide/driver Upali was waiting for us. We were very relieved to see him. The 3 hour transfer to our hotel in Kitulgala had to be driven through the ‘rush’ hour. There wasn’t a lot of rushing but it was a real experience enduring the driving conditions in a new country. Upali quickly gave us confidence in his own driving skills and it remains a mystery how he avoided all manner of hazards on this and all subsequent journeys.

Our alternative hotel (2 nights) at Kitulgala was fine with particularly friendly staff. The food was good.

Giving us the Sri Lankan perspective and taking us to local places to eat every lunch time

Thank you for making our first trip to Sri Lanka a memorable experience. We have been very impressed with all the hotels, the excellent food and in wonderful surrounding. The bird watching has been brilliant and your expert knowledge and assistance has made identification of different species so easy. We have enjoyed the visits to cultural sites and your explanation of the history of the sights made them more interesting.

Mr. Silva’s careful driving made the long journeys comfortable and relaxing. The trip was organized expertly and has been smoothly from start finish.

For anyone thinking of taking a trip with Jith we cannot recommend you too highly.
Thank you for a very enjoyable holiday.

Excellent tour although schedule for cultural triangle element is very demanding

We first met Jith at the Bird Fair in 2008 and have been promising ourselves a trip to Sri Lanka since then. We finally got round to organizing this 12 day trip in 2012!

It has been a very enjoyable experience, and thanks to Jith’s excellent bird identification skills, we have seen 31 of 33 endemic birds. This would have been the 33 (we think) had it not been for heavy rain on our last day at Martin’s Lodge, Sinharaja. The path tracker found a roost site for Serendib’s Owl but it was far too wet, muddy & dangerous for us to attempt a sighting.

This was our third trip with Jith and cannot recommend him highly enough. The knowledge and experience he has gained since he began his company “Walk With Jith” has made him stand out against other guides. A lovely gentle and understanding individual, we wish him continued success and will definitely return.

Dear Jith

Thank you very much for arranging such a lovely holiday for us.  Our guide (we can't remember how to spell his name) was very good at spotting the birds, the car was always clean, he was always ready at the correct time.  He made sure we had plenty of comfort breaks and water.  He was very good at the bird calls.  He mentioned that there was a questionnaire to complete at the end of the holiday but he hadn't got a form.

Accommodation
Soverign - very good.

Rest House - other guests had had problems with their bills as well.

Sigiriya - good.
Nature Walk - very good, people food and room all very nice.

Grand Hotel - very good.

Bird watching and culture tour – 21 days
03rd January to 22 January 2012

We first met Jith 05 years ago at the bird fair. We came close to booking a trip but its troubles intervened. This year we have finally made it to Sri Lanka and what a thoroughlyenjoyable trip it has been. The six cultural sites that we visited were all interesting in their own ways. Some of them were challenging to climb than others!!

Opportunities to have fantastic close ups of superb birds.

Well where do we start. Thank you Jith for an amazing trip. We wasn’t sure what we would make of Sri Lanka but we love it and thanks to you for all your knowledge of the cultural side.
We came to Sri Lanka mainly for the birds and wildlife. Before we arrived in Sri Lanka we exchanged lots of emails asking if we could see bats and leopards. He delivered us with 100s of bats and 3 leopards so was very happy. Birdwatching wise was excellent. We saw 27 of 33 endemic birds, 175 species of Birds in total of which 112 where new (would have been happy with a 100).

Jaya was an excellent guide – very friendly attentive and met all our requests

A wonderful holiday that has been all that was promised and more! Jith has been attentive since the day we contacted him over the internet. He has provided a brilliant service,  a tailor made itinary that has given us a wonderful insight into this fascinating country.

The birding has been wonderful under Jith’s expert guidance and boundless patience!! We have learned so much about the history of the island and experienced such a variety of towns, villages, historical and religious sites. Some highlights: Reclining Stone Buddha; making it to the top of Sigiriya, fire walking dancers; Landover Safari; 35 new birds a day; more Buddha’s in caves; curry for breakfast; monkeys and elephants ----  and more and more.

A never ending supply of funny stories and simple jokes has kept us amused throughout

How can we put into words what a wonderful week we have had?

You have created for both our needs, as amateurs birders who can’t always see what you want her to see and teenage princess who hates to move an inch without checking her hair, but you made her see the light + visit the rainforest wearing leech socks + funny waterproofs and no makeup + trimmings + and she actually enjoyed herself!! You have taught us so much about your wonderful Island and your passion and enthusiasm is inspiring. A never ending supply of funny stories and simple jokes has kept us amused us throughout and I am sure we have amused you with our funny English ways + “things”.

Great experience, awe-inspiring, stunning, memorable as a complete package

I don't think that there is a most memorable part of the holiday as it was memorable as a complete package. If pushed i would say that stunning views of the tea plantations and the beautiful terraced smallholdings of the local Sri Lankans on the way to Nuwara Eliya were awe-inspiring and the cave temples in Dambulla were simply stunning. The mini safari in Uduwallawa National Park was great fun and we loved seeing all the elephants at such close hand.

We loved Sri Lanka, the birds and the people

Many thanks Jith for our second birding trip with you albeit only a week this time.

Although a shortened trip the birding as ever was superb and the transport and support from “Mr. Silva” was second to none. (as was his ever present smile)

We loved Sri Lanka, the birds and the people the first time we came and nothing has altered, long may it remain unchanged!

We’ve had this trip booked for 18 months & it was worth the wait – despite the heavy rain & flooding we experienced in the first week. For my first ever “birding” holiday this was tough but Jith has shown great patience & now I’m “hooked”.

The habitats have been as varied as the accommodations & that variety has enriched the experience. We’re currently in Galle with your final adventure in the morning. Down to Merissa at 05.15 am to go in search of the mighty Blue Whale. Fingers crossed we were lucky as we were in Yala when we saw a leopard with a young cub.

I was told how brilliant you [Jith] were at finding the birds

I have been looking forward to this trip for quite a while – ever since you were introduced to me when you were birding at the RSPB reserve of the Saltholme . I was told how brilliant you were at finding the birds, but it did not prepare us for just how wonderful your country is. As Barry and Brenda have written, you opened up the country of Sri Lanka to us all and you exceeded my expectations over the birds.

I hope that one day you will see an English medow pipit, and a puffin with several sand eels in its bill!

Than you Jith, & your crew
